Random Saturday Post.....

So, its beautiful here in San Antonio today. It's a cool 50something and I've got a few windows open as I lazily lounge on the couch while my baby naps. Tyler is working this morning, so I'm just taking advantage of this down time and taking a second to breathe. The house is filled with a wonderful aroma since I've got two of these babies in the oven....

One for me and one (well part of one) for Senor Ford once he wakes up from his nap. I absolutely adore sweet potatoes. The way they smell, the way they taste.... Seriously folks, I could live off them. Yum.

In other news, I think it's safe to say I am a plant murderer.

Seriously. I. Need. To. Stop. Trying.

But every time I see these herbs for sale at our local grocery, I think "Gee! Let's start an herb garden. How hard can it be?" Never fails, I give in, I spend twenty bucks buying all of them, and then BAM two weeks later--- dead. Happens almost every Spring and every Fall.... Will I ever learn?

Darn you plants.

Hope your having a lovely Saturday!

It's the little things....

Mommy Boot Camp has really become something I look forward to every week. Not only does the instructor kick my booty, but some of the Moms really make me laugh and every once in awhile when I'm having a "Mommy Blues" kinda moment, make me feel much better.

Monday was one of those days.... We got to talking about all the small things we missed from our pre-mommy days and laughed at how insignificant they were but how frustrating it can be sometimes when our hubbies don't  seem to understand..... It was nice to just laugh and vent with one another. Of course I wouldn't trade my new life for the world, but I do have a "day" every once in awhile.....

So ladies, this post is for you. I'm going to lay it all out there and list the top ten things I miss from my pre- mommy days and then you feel free to comment and add yours. We can call this our group therapy session for the day!
Here goes.....

1. Taking a shower by myself and actually having enough time to shave my legs
2. Having an actual adult conversation that isn't interrupted by, or about babies
3. Taking an extra long time to get ready (and by extra long I mean actually having five seconds to iron a shirt, put on actual make up and straighten my hair) without feeling guilty like I should be spending this time playing with Ford....
4. Wearing a cute shirt without worrying how drool will look on it
5.  Getting a mani/pedi (My pre Mommy self would slap me if she saw my fingernails)
6. Buying something nice for myself and not feeling like I should have spent the money on Ford
7.  Getting all my errands done in one day versus two here and then two there because let's face it, getting a kid in and out of the car is a pain in the PA-toot-y!!!!
8. Making a really knock em sock em, AMAZING, mouth watering, dinner from start to finish without being torn away by an inevitable baby need and then burning, not cooking long enough, or leaving out the most important ingredient in the recipe your trying to master, grrr!
9. Sleeping...... I don't know about you but I feel like I never sleep anymore and when I do I am awakened by the slightest noise ever..... no more deep sleep for this Mama!
10. Sporadic Date Nights, just because......

I know we'd all give it up all over again to have the opportunity to snuggle these little lovies, BUT humor me! What do you miss the most now that your a Mommy?

Let's make some baby food!

Alright, so in case your new here, I make my own baby food. And no, I'm nowhere near as granola as that sounds. But, I feel like organic is best for my baby and well, let's face it folks, organic pre-made food is (gulp!) expensive! And since we're already spending Ford's College tuition on his non-allergenic formula and I can't stomach even the thought of cloth diapers (I'm a wimp), we try to pinch pennies where ever else possible ( I kid! sorta....).

As nerdy as this sounds, I also kind of enjoy it. I love to cook, so making food for Ford is an outlet that I really love, plus I know exactly what he's getting at each meal. And believe me, I swear it's not that hard! If it was, I probably wouldn't do it ( I'm all about easy people!). So here's a little "How We Do It," for those of you who are interested or thinking about jumping on the bandwagon with your bambino.

Here goes....

We try to buy from our local Farmer's Market which tend to sell GREAT organic and CHEAP fruits and veggies. Or we'll get what's not in season in the freezer department at our local grocery store. I make food about once every two/three weeks and then store it in the freezer.

I absolutely love the One Step Ahead Fresh N' Freeze Containers, they screw on, and stack very nicely in the freezer, plus their BPA free, so you can microwave them etc. Love!

Then I label each 2 oz. container with Scotch freezer tape. Scotch is my favorite brand because it sticks but doesn't leave a sticky residue when it's time to wash the container. I hate trying to peel a label off with my fingernails, grrr!!!!
And finally, some of my favorite baby cookbooks are.....

All three are extremely helpful and offer lots of great advice and guidelines in terms of healthy cooking but also have some DELISH recipes that'll have your baby saying "Yummmm!" in no time!

Life is too short....

As many of you have probably seen on the news by now, Indy race car driver, Dan Wheldon passed away yesterday after a fatal car crash in Las Vegas. Dan lived in St. Petersburg, Florida (where I'm from), he was thirty three years old, had a wife and two sweet little boys.

During my single days (his too) we used to frequent some of the same social circles. One of his best friends dated one of my good friends and another one of his best friends actually married my hairdresser. Though I didn't know Dan that well, I knew him well enough to say that he was a wonderful person. Very caring, very nice, a complete gentleman and I'm sure a wonderful father.

Today, I can't stop thinking about him, specifically his wife and two children (one three, one seven(?) months). They are both so young, too young to be without a Dad, his wife far too young to be without her husband.... All loss is tragic, but this, this just breaks my heart.

Time passes too quickly and life is most certainly too short. Take a minute today and tell the ones you love just how much they mean to you because you never know what tomorrow may bring....

Praying for Dan and his family.....

Ten Year Reunion....holy smokes, that flew!?!?

Wow, time flies when your having fun! Geez, I can't believe the time has come to celebrate our ten year high school reunion. Seriously, where did the time go? Weren't we graduating like yesterday? I still feel eighteen, certainly I'm not......(gulp) one year away from turning the big 3-0....yikes! It just goes so quick, but then, wow, so much has been packed into the last ten years--- I graduated college, got my first, second, and third job, moved out on my own, met my husband, moved in with my husband, married my husband, moved across country, bought my first house, renovated a house, got pregnant, had a baby.... whew.... are you tired yet!?!?

With all that said, weirdly, I'm not all that into my high school reunion. Ten years ago, I think it's safe to say people would've assumed I would have been first to RSVP for this trip down memory lane, but I guess the past ten years have changed me. I'm just not all that into it. I still talk to all my close girlfriends from high school. In fact, I'm proud to say they're still some of my best friends! I know what they are up to and what's going on in their lives. The rest of my high school friends went to other schools, so they wouldn't even be at my reunion and luckily, thanks to facebook, those I want to keep up with- I can. Since I don't live in Florida anymore, going to my reunion would entail buying a plane ticket, rearranging plans, making new plans etc., so, with all that said, I've decided not to go. Totally weird and UN-Crispin like, but hey, it's been ten years and things change :)

I leave you with a few incriminating photos of me and my girls back in the day.....

And just so you can all get a good laugh and make fun of my Junior Prom Dress choice......

What about you? Did you attend your high school reunion???

Happy Hump Day!

Ford & Tana

Now that Ford is "almost" mobile, we've been spending lots of time on the ground. That said, suddenly, Ford is very aware of Ms. Montana! It's hilarious and adorable!

Happy Weekend.....

The Nursery....one step closer.....

So at the suggestion of my super sweet and creative bestie Megan, I added some "oomph" to Ford's animal heads.... It went from this.....

to this...

Gotta love a GREAT sale at Michael's and a can of spray paint!

So we're allllmooosssttt there....

(pardon the terrible pics, it's 6:00 AM and still dark out!)

So, now, all that's left to do is ---make a bumper and bedskirt, but we're so close to needing to lower the crib that I'm holding out.....Hah! Right now we're using the ugly "breathable" bumper as well, so, I'm in no hurry, obviously :). The goal is to have made one by the end of the month, we'll see!!!

So what do you think? Am I getting closer?

Sippycup here we come.....

So, Ford has been taking gulps out of Mommy and Daddy's water glasses for some time now. So today, we decided it was time for our "almost six month old," to venture into the land of cups. Crazy thing, he nailed it immediately and took at least five sips all on his own within the course of fifteen minutes.....

But after that.... it was all down hill from there..... Ford decided it was WAY more fun to gnaw on the handle.... oh my special child......

A Halloween Wreath....

When I was home my Mom taught me how to make some really cute topiaries out of felt and styrofoam balls for my friend Brooke's 30th Birthday. It was quick and adorbs! When I saw the finished product, I knew I'd be using these for many parties, but also wanted to try and use this method to make a Halloween wreath.

Then I saw a ribbon wreath that Ms. Erin made over at Blue Eyed Bride and I thought, "Hey, what if I combine the methods? I love the ribbon wreath but didn't have enough orange and black ribbon on hand so felt was a cheap and easy thing to use as a filler, but still get a similar effect.  And so began my "Ford is Napping (YAY!), Super Simple, Wreath Project"

All you do is cute pieces of felt into squares and then take a pencil or pen and push it into the styrofoam wreath a few times, like so...

Then you take pieces of ribbon (like Erin's tutorial describes) and glue them into loops, like so...

Then I just randomly placed them throughout the wreath....

Here's the finished product.......

Pretty proud of the finished product, if I do say so myself :)

Yay for October!

Happy Birthday

To the best Dad ever.....

Here, let me help you open your present.....

Mom said you wanted a Nail Gun

Hope you like it!!!

Beautiful Texas Wedding....

This weekend Tyler and I had the privilege of attending our first Texas Wedding and I've got to say, bar none, including my own, it was THE MOST gorgeous wedding I have ever been to, it made me want to get married all over again.

The wedding was outdoors, deep in the Texas Hill Country, with nothing but antique looking strung lights and paper lanterns lighting the way. People danced the night away, to the Texas Two Step, no less (I've gotta learn this!), and of course only to good old fashioned country music. It was beautiful, not to mention a ton of fun! Of course in true Crispin fashion I only took a few pics, but hopefully you can get the general idea....

I absolutely LOVE weddings and it was a true privilege to attend this couple's nuptials. This was also the first wedding I attended after the birth of Ford, and well, it kinda made me laugh, as I suddenly realized how my perspective had changed....

It used to be I LOVED watching the first dance and then the father-daughter dance, dreaming of what mine would be like and what song's we would dance to; however at this wedding, I was mesmerized by the mother-son dance and yes I must admit.... BAWLED my eyes out thinking of Ford and I..... yikes! Really!?!?!?! My sweet boy is going to get married! Yikes.....

(I know, I know start laughing now!)

Hope you all had GREAT weekends, it's finally starting to cool off here!! Yay!
