We Remember.....

I don't know about ya'll, but still, ten years later I am profoundly attached/moved/saddened by 9/11. My husband and I have been watching some of the specials that are beginning to air on various networks and I have to say.... it still brings tears to my eyes and a chill down my back.  Last night on the National Geographic channel we watched two separate specials featuring Mayor Giuliani and then President Bush. They explained in an hour long, unedited interview, what that day was like for them, it was mesmerizing to hear in their own words exactly how that day changed them forever.

Like most people, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the terror attacks transpired, ten yeas ago this September. I won't go into specific details except to say that at the time I lived in D.C. and was going to school at American University a few measly miles away from the Pentagon....

A few days after the attacks, a few of my girlfriends and I were visiting friends over at Georgetown University. The mood was somber to say the least. Our friends had an apartment overlooking the Potomac River and all of us gathered on the rooftop, talking, sharing our stories and really just comforting one another as we all tried to cope with this unbelievable occurrence. Friends had lost parents, siblings, other friends, etc- we were all just trying to wrap our heads around it.

Then suddenly, as we talked, we heard the roar of helicopters zooming down the Potomac, it could only be one person.... The President of the United States, on his way to Camp David (this was his typical route to the Camp). One guy grabbed the American Flag he had hanging from his door while the rest of us charged to the railing, jumping up and down screaming USA-USA-USA!!! To our utter surprise the President happened to look out the helicopter window at that very moment and see us! In retrospect, I doubt he heard us chanting; however, I'm sure he got the message. As he passed he gave us a "determined" two thumbs up and for some reason, it really did, make us all feel better, even if it was only for a moment.

To this day, I remember that moment and those feelings like it was yesterday, it's crystal clear in my mind. If I let myself, I can also remember the fear, the sadness, and utter dismay I felt when classmates shared the news of those they had lost in either the Pentagon and or the WTC. It makes me want to sob uncontrollably.

However, I can also remember some good that transpired after these horrible occurrences....When I look back at all the footage and see fellow Americans helping each other and I remember "that guy"grabbing the American Flag and frantically waving it back and fourth on the rooftop of a Georgetown Apartment, it makes me extremely nostalgic and PROUD to be an American.

It humbles me.

Weekend Recap: Hanging Out in Dallas

Tyler, Ford and I headed to Dallas this past weekend. Tyler had a class and I didn't want to be home alone...again. Lucky for us, we've got family in Dallas! So, we all went together and Ford and I got to hang out with my brother/sister in law and their cute kids! It also happened to be my nieces tenth birthday. I mean really, how cute is she??

Ford got lots of love from everyone!

And I got to love on my sweet nieces and nephews!

Plus share some RIDICULOUSLY delicious Strawberry Basil Martini's with my sister in law and her cousin! Yay for yummy cocktails!

After a few cocktails in the adults settled down for a rambunctious game of Farkle.... People, have you played Farkle?? It's my new game--- so fun!!! We had a blast!

After Farkle and a few of those yummy martinis the adults may or may not have started a dance party.... And I may or may not have taken some very incriminating photos :) But, those are for my family's eyes only :)

Hope ya'll had a great weekend!

Ford is Four Months Old!

(I mean seriously, who couldn't love this kid?)

Ford,

You are SUCHA ham! This past month you have changed so much! You can rollover on your own now, back to front and ALMOST front to back. You are too cute! You giggle and laugh when you do it, which absolutely cracks me up. The other day you suddenly went completely quiet while on your play mat, I looked over and you were GONE! I kinda had a mini heart attack, while visions of kidnapping danced through my head (yes, your Mom is a slight hypochondriac!) and then I heard a giggle coming from beneath the coffee table... I looked and you had somehow scooted yourself almost three feet, completely underneath the table! I got down on my hands and knees and said "What do you think your doing?" You looked at me and let out the loudest and longest giggle! Already, I am certain, you are going to give me a run for my money child!

You sleep thru the night ranging from 11-12 hours, which I LOVE! Still no real "nap" schedule however. You and I are sort of at war on this one! The darn Babywise book is for the birds (with you anyways), you scream regardless of the schedule I've put you on, for the full hour I try to get you to nap.... grrrr..... If you could work on this during month five, Mommy would REALLY appreciate it! :)

We've taken you swimming a few times and you really seem to like that! The bath is also becoming more of an activity for you, your starting to move your hands in the water to make splashes. I have no doubt by the end of month four you'll be truly "playing" in the tub!!

We're biased, but we think,  you are the absolute CUTEST baby on the block, we are putty in your hands Little! We love you!!!

What does a Mom do exactly???

A few bloggers like Natalie highlighted this article a few months back; however, lately I have found myself rereading it over and over again. I've been using it as my "reassurance" that I haven't completely lost my mind and as a reminder that there ARE other women like me out there in the world!

Being a Mom is wonderful, but gosh, so hard to explain to someone who's not. Hanging out with your bestie's kids, babysitting, nannying, etc. CANNOT prepare you for the 24/7 job that you embark upon when you become a Mom, it's just insane. It's on the job training at it's finest.

That said, lately I've found myself ultra sensitive to what others (non-mom's) may be thinking. I find myself holding back in conversations, resisting the urge to discuss growth spurts, feeding schedules, baby activities etc. and instead talking about anything and everything that isn't "Mommy" related so that my friends, or whoever I'm talking to for that matter, won't think "I've changed...." It's a slippery slope to climb. One of my friends (who shall remain nameless :)) left me a message the other day, and said something to the effects of "For someone who doesn't work you are extremely hard to get ahold of..." Well folks, I've got to tell you it just about sent me over the edge. I called my husband at work and went on a ten minute tirade, "What does she think I do all day, sit around and eat bonbons? Does she have any idea what it's like to do this!?!?"

After my husband talked me off the ledge and encouraged me to "let it go," I took a deep breath and started to think about the disconnect? Where/when does it happen? How come working girls and or non-moms are so far removed from what it's like? They were kids once, they had Moms, how come they don't realize what it takes? And please don't misunderstand, I'm not pointing fingers, just four short months ago, I was one of those non-moms and I too, used to wonder what the heck my Mom friends were doing?? WHY wasn't I more tolerant? Why did I give my Mom friends such a hard time when they didn't return my phone call? I cringe when I think about it, knowing now, that the fact that they called me back at all should have been celebrated!

So, to conclude (and to again, get off my soap box :)), I guess the point I'm trying to make is.... HUG YOUR MOM FRIEND today! You may not understand what goes on in their household and you may not "get"  what makes them SO busy, but understand this...... if it's in your life plan to have a family one day, you'll be there soon enough, and trust me my friend, you will remember the times you teased your Mom friends and I promise, you will eat your words, especially when your calling her every thirty minutes for advice. I'm just saying... :)

Weekend Update

And we're back! Geeez, I feel like I've been running a marathon this past few days with my Happy Hour(s) on Thursday and then Tyler's Reward Getaway for some of his agents! It's been nuts! This weekend we were lucky enough to hang out at the Hyatt Hill Country, home of the awesome lazy river (I've blogged about this beauty before). So fun!

Ford went swimming for the second time with his Dad, the water was a little cooler, so I think he was a bit confused, but just the same he laughed, smiled and cooed in delight!

When we finally got home on Sunday the kid PASSED out......

I can't believe I had a party and.......

DIDN'T TAKE ANY PICTURES!

Argh! Bad me! However, as I type this I am snuggled in bed with my little one watching terrible TV, so if that's any indication..... WE HAD A BLAST!!!!

In other news, I have to book a hotel in New York City TODAY or my besties are going to kick my booty! So, no great blog post today folks, I'm researching hotels for our Girls Getaway!

Happy Friday!

Kitchen hits and misses....

Ok, so yesterday I had a big hit and a big MISS!!!! Let's start with the miss, you may remember this post, where I described the lovely gift my hubby got me this past Valentine's Day. Well, truth be told I have only used this machine to make Tortilla Soup, which was/is awesome, BUT this was the demo they used in the store to sell the machine, so I knew it would be good. Obviously, I haven't used it yet to make baby food bc Ford is still a little ways away from that. HOWEVER, last night I ventured into the "unknown" and attempted to make Veggie Soup..... well....... it was a BUST, turned out to look like green goo. So much so, that Tyler held Ford over it and even he, who puts anything is his mouth, was disgusted..... hence the picture....

So, a big boo to that one. BUT then I made the yummy oreo cheesecake cupcakes I talked about yesterday and well.... AAAAA-MAAAA-ZZZZZZING!!!!

You can find my pin for these here, thank you Joyful Baker!!! Yummy!!! Can't wait to serve these tonight at Dinner Divas!

Busy, busy bee!!!

Wow! It's been a busy few days! But, I'm happy to say we are finally getting in our groove and are on some sort of schedule. Senor Ford's acid reflux seems to have calmed down (thank you Dr. Eric Springer!) and Ford seems to be feeling really GREAT!

Mom's even managed to do a few things for herself! Ford and I have been going to Mommy Boot Camp on a regular basis for two weeks and I'm meeting some really fun women! Not to mention, getting my mommy booty kicked! Yay!

I even managed to take a sewing class on Monday night (Don't laugh!) I learned how to make a pillow! Pretty exciting considering how much sofa pillows generally retail for :)

And then I'm gearing up for a little cocktail party I'm hosting on Thursday night for some fun women I've met over the past few months! Pretty excited! I'm making oreo cheesecake cupcakes... you know you want one :)

And of course spending QT with this little guy! Who, if you look closely, has found his feet!!!! So cute!!! (pardon the drool, we still have a faucet on our hands folks!)

In other news, I promise that I will post Ford's room pictures soon, but I'm still on the hunt for three big vintage looking frames. I have scoured the San Antonio GoodWill and have struck out! Grrrr. San Antonio peeps, any idea where I could find some old, cool frames? The color doesn't matter since once I get them I'm going to spruce em up! Let me know if you've got an idea!

Happy Wednesday!

More Nursery Progress

Hah! So at this rate maybe Ford's room will be finished by the time he's ready for his toddler room. Geeeez!!!!! But today I'm working on this.....

Curtains for his room, thank you steam a seam.... EASIEST, CHEAPEST (hubby likes that word), and CUTEST curtains EVER :)

Pictures of my finished product to follow!

A little clarification....

All you girls crack me up! First, thank you so much for your caring calls, emails, texts etc. Just to clarify, I am not sad that I'm not going to be a size 0 again ( it's more of a choice and well a hip "issue" not fat just stretched!). I'm actually totally fine with it, seriously :) And if you ask my Mom she'll tell you, I was way too skinny when I was a size 0 anyway (which honestly she may as well of recorded and just put on replay, since she told me so often----thanks Mom!))

So that being said, I am working to become a size 2 again, that't the goal anyways! So, no worries! Remember I'm a short 5'3 so a 2 or a 4 is a realistic, healthy size for me :) I'm proud to report that since my melodramatic post about weight two weeks ago, I've lost seven pounds! And no I'm not starving myself, I've just been working out like a mad woman and eating lots of veggies and lean meats!!! I'm doing baby boot camp, my elliptical, and walking 24/7! My goal is to have lost 10 more pounds for Vegas which is at the end of September! Cross your fingers ladies!!!

And in the meantime, buy my clothes!!! The more I sell the more hubby let's me spend on the house and believe me, I've got LOTS of projects floating around in my head, so please help a girl out :).

Have s GREAT weekend!!!!
My goal is to finish the DARN tree!!!!! Cross fingers!
